I recently purchased medieval total war 2 in the hopes of playing with my friend, but was disappointed to find the mulitplayer was..[ED] leaving much to be desired [/ED]. First off my friend and I could not find each others servers (it was direct connection to host no dedicated servers which was a let down in itself). Secondly if i did manage to connect to a game the connection was horrible, due to said servers. Very dissapointing but I suppose the single play makes up for it...
In single play there are 17 playable fractions including England, France, Spain, Germany, etc.
Every fraction has at least one exclusive unit, they also have different religous views. Even though you can control your fraction however you choose, the pope occasionally gives you missons to do, or tells you to stop conquering other catholic fractions. That can be rather annyoing when your having your own fun crushing them, as if you disobey him he will excommute [ED: What?] you, every catholic is suddenly out to get you. Still its pretty funny when your the super power and they all team up and fail miserably!
Overall I give mulitplayer a 2/10 becuase there were no dedicated servers but single player kept me captivated for hours so I'd give it a 9/10.
