The Enigma Team

We've assigned ourselves journalistic sounding titles - in an effort to sound extraordinarily professional - I hope you agree?

Fordy first created an online tech blog with similar intentions to Enigma, called 'XTR'. However after coming across the others and deciding to go about one together, we decided to create a entirely new blog, doing away with my sometimes few-and-far-between posts, which were mainly due to being the only contributing editor.

So, on Wednesday 4th May 2010, the Enigma Technology Blog was born. Founded by FordyBeaverkeish, and  Clavengun - who to date, are all still editors of the blog.

I think I was first interested in gadgets and technology when I was given a "see-through" cased GameBoy when I was about 6. I followed the advancements mainly through games consoles, owning a PS1, PS2, and Xbox 360 - but I also quickly became confident in a Windows environment, and since the age of 10/11 was called upon to fix things within the family.
A few years ago I delved deeper into Linux and OS X to expand beyond Windows. Although there is much I prefer about the other OS's I don't think I can ever move away from Win, because of both games and knowing it so well.
Today, my main focuses of tech interest are Hardware/Systems building, AV/Home Cinema Systems and I'm getting more and more into using my PC as a gaming rig, rather than my 360.

I think I got interested in tech because of "JAshley", probably only a few years ago. But recently my interest has grown, after meeting "Fordy" I became very jealous of his computer setup, then due my employment I was able to match it[Fordy:]Err, no, you will never match me ;)[/Fordy]. And from there between him and Joe they've taught me a lot.
As Joe got me into understanding computers and smart phones, when I saw him buy a BlackBerry I joined the club. And after seeing him buy a Mac, I joined that club too. And I'm hooked.
But now, from downloading a trial software package, I got into video, picture editing and web design. This was partly my reason in buying a MacBook Pro, and I think this is where I will stay for a while, until either something more interesting comes along or I become more competent in these areas.
So all this started in a business class, nothing to do with business, in fact, me and "Fordy" were probably passing the time with some games..., and I'll admit it was his brainchild, a British technology news website, but I was first to get on board, and the rest is history... albeit recent history.

Well, my dad has worked in IT since as early as I can remember, which to be honest isn’t a great length of time. I often get asked what I had for tea 5 minutes after tea and I have to sit and think for awhile to remember.
But thats just how I am, I think my mind is rigged differently to most, I find it hard to remember things that have happened of reasonable importance but I have a brain full of old bits of code I once programmed in, or different distros of Linux I have never used.
I think the thing that really started me getting into tech was probably when my dad bought home an old XDA II i remember how cool I felt knowing that at the age of 9 I was the only kid in the school with a smart phone, even if it was 2 years old, I remember him telling me about XDA-developers.com and how great it was and all the improvements you could do to it, I remember flashing custom ROMs and that first feeling of oh no what happens if I brick it, but after that I started getting into computers, I was soon starting to try and crack passwords and stuff.
I think that I have always had an obsession with beating computer systems, it could possibly be one of the reasons I moved to Mac, because I knew that if it was to annoy me it would be much harder for me to find a loop hole and start initiating self destruct sequences.
So after breaking a few PC's my family began to trust me in fixing their PC's again and despite the fact my dad is an IT manager I am usually the first port of call for most computer related things.
Soon after that I started getting interested in web development and started work on a joomla site, I then kinda just carried on stumbling through numerous new phones starting with a blackberry then moving from Windows Mobile back to BlackBerry then Android with my lovely HTC Desire. I’ve probably missed alot of my tech history but thats it in a nut shell.

Fordy: Great intro, if you want some help breaking PC's, I made a great little command shell bomb whilst sitting in the sun on holiday, with a netbook sans internet access. "What to do?"..."Break it?!" Needless to say, it got extremely hot and whirry, and then BSOD'd.
